Our Mission

Open Christian Press exists to advance rigorous, ethically responsible, accessible, and biblically informed scholarship that serves the academy, the Church, professional communities, and wider society.

We regard scholarly publishing as a form of stewardship. Authors entrust the Press with their intellectual work, while readers rely on us to distinguish evidence, interpretation, argument, opinion, and editorial classification responsibly.

Our Christian Identity

Open Christian Press is a scholarly publishing imprint of Open Christian University and is rooted in the historic biblical Christian faith.

We affirm that all truth ultimately belongs to God and that human knowledge remains accountable to Him. Scripture is therefore received as the final authority for Christian doctrine, moral faithfulness, and obedience.

This conviction does not remove the need for research, interpretation, or debate. Rather, it deepens the obligation to avoid false witness, careless citation, manipulated evidence, intellectual pride, and unsupported claims. Christian scholarship should demonstrate humility, courage, accuracy, and love for truth.

Scripture and Scholarship

Open Christian Press affirms the authority and sufficiency of Scripture in matters of faith and obedience. At the same time, Scripture should not be used as a decorative quotation or as a substitute for evidence, careful interpretation, or methodological competence. Faith-informed scholarship should distinguish clearly among:

• what Scripture explicitly teaches;

• theological synthesis;

• historical interpretation;

• prudential judgement;

• philosophical argument;

• empirical claim.

Where Scripture is cited, authors should attend to its literary, canonical, historical, and theological context. Where evidence is incomplete or contested, conclusions should be stated proportionately and with appropriate intellectual humility.

Academic Integrity

Open Christian Press upholds rigorous standards of scholarship, peer review, editorial independence, and research integrity. Authors, reviewers, and editors are expected to demonstrate:

• originality and responsible citation;

• honest reporting of evidence, data, methods, and limitations;

• transparent authorship, funding, and conflicts of interest;

• respect for intellectual property and proper attribution;

• responsible treatment of research participants and affected communities;

• willingness to correct, clarify, withdraw, or retract work where necessary.

Faith commitment does not lower scholarly standards. It calls for greater truthfulness, accountability, and care in the handling of evidence and argument.

Intellectual Freedom and Responsibility

Open Christian Press supports disciplined inquiry, including the examination of neglected, controversial, unpopular, or institutionally disfavoured questions.

Intellectual freedom does not mean that every claim is publishable without scrutiny. A contribution earns scholarly consideration through the quality of its evidence, reasoning, method, relevance, and ethical presentation, not merely because it agrees with or opposes prevailing opinion.

Scholarly consensus may deserve serious consideration, but it is not infallible. It remains open to responsible examination, correction, and refinement.

Human Dignity

Every person bears inherent dignity and must not be reduced to a data point, market unit, ideological category, or instrument of institutional ambition.

Publishing decisions should therefore consider the rights and welfare of research participants, communities, authors, reviewers, readers, and those who may be affected by the use of published knowledge.

Excellence as Service

Scholarship can become a means of prestige, exclusion, self-promotion, or intellectual domination. Open Christian Press seeks a different posture:

excellence without vanity, visibility without manipulation, authority without domination, and conviction without contempt.

We understand scholarly work as service to truth, neighbour, Church, academy, and society.

Participation and Editorial Independence

Authors and reviewers from different institutional, cultural, denominational, or religious backgrounds may contribute where their work fits the scope and standards of the relevant publication.

Participation does not imply endorsement of every belief held by a contributor. Likewise, publication does not mean that Open Christian Press adopts every conclusion expressed by an author.

Editorial decisions are based on scholarly quality, originality, ethical integrity, relevance, and suitability for the publication.

Our Aspiration

We aspire to cultivate a publishing culture in which:

• truth is pursued conscientiously;

• evidence is handled faithfully;

• Scripture is interpreted responsibly;

• disagreement is conducted respectfully;

• errors are corrected transparently;

• knowledge is directed toward responsible service.

Open Christian Press welcomes scholars who seek to pursue truth without compromise, examine difficult questions without fear, and contribute to knowledge with intellectual integrity, moral courage, and humility before God.
