Open Christian Press is committed to clear, proportionate and ethically administered publishing charges. No fee is required merely to submit a work or to receive legitimate editorial consideration. Payment does not influence reviewer recommendations, editorial decisions, correction decisions or the order in which scholarly merit is assessed.
Where a journal applies an article processing charge, the amount and any exemptions are stated on that journal's website before submission. As of July 2026, the standard charge for applicable Open Christian Press journals is US$30 and is payable only after acceptance.
The Open Journal of Business Theology and the Open Journal of Stigmatized Knowledge & Suppressed Discourses are currently fee-free. Open Christian University students are eligible for a full waiver, and authors facing genuine financial hardship may request confidential consideration.
Because policies may change, the individual journal page remains the authoritative source for the current charge.
Book publication costs vary considerably according to length, editorial requirements, design complexity, number of images, permissions, formats, print specifications, indexing needs and distribution plan. The Press does not impose a universal book processing charge without first assessing the project. Possible arrangements include:
Press-funded or subsidised publication
Institutional or grant-funded open-access publication
Cost-sharing agreed with an author, editor or sponsoring organisation
Commercial publication supported by anticipated sales
Commissioned publication under a written institutional agreement
Any author contribution is disclosed and agreed in writing before production begins. It does not purchase scholarly endorsement or guarantee publication.
Publishing income may support editorial administration, similarity checking, copyediting, proofreading, typesetting, design, DOI and ISBN administration, platform infrastructure, digital conversion, preservation, accessibility, and dissemination. Reviewers and editors do not receive a percentage of author fees, and any exceptional honorarium or reimbursement must be transparently disclosed.
Waiver decisions consider genuine financial need, lack of institutional support, geographic and economic circumstances, student status, mission relevance, and available subsidy. Requests are handled respectfully and confidentially. An author’s ability or inability to pay is not disclosed to reviewers and does not influence editorial decisions.
Journal fees are normally invoiced after acceptance and before publication. Refunds may be considered when the Press cannot complete publication for reasons within its control. Fees are non-refundable once substantial editorial or production work begins. Book-project payments, cancellations, rights, and deliverables follow the applicable agreement.
Authors receive written information on applicable charges, included services, payment timing, and waiver options. No unexpected fee should be introduced after acceptance without informed agreement.
